This Month in Lit - Edgar Allan Poe Unit

On Monday, October 3rd, we will begin a month and a half long author study unit on the creative works of Edgar Allan Poe.  Here is a list of tentative stories that will be read and discussed in class.  Click here for a PDF file of the calendar: unit calendar.pdf

  1. -The Bells
  2. -The Tell Tale Heart
  3. -The Raven
  4. -The Murders of the Rue Morgue
  5. -Hop-frog
  6. -The Black Cat
  7. -The Pit and the Pendulum
  8. -The Cask of Amontillado
  9. -The Masque of the Red Death
  10. -Annabel Lee

We will be reading many of these stories as a “play/script” or otherwise modified version to fit the various learning modalities of the 8th grade classroom.  We will listen to some audio versions of Poe’s stories and also view an episode of “The Simpsons” in which they reveal their own parody of “The Raven”.  At the end of the unit in early November, students will be given a summative assessment on works from this Mystery and Suspense literature unit.

Stay tuned to the website for video clips, links to other web material, and other exciting things as we plunge into the madness of Poe!
