Mystery and Scientific Deduction on TV

Here's a friendly reminder that you have until next Friday to comment here about the TV show (or movie) you watch that features scientific-mystery-type investigation.  I understand that many of you do not have parent permission to watch certain TV shows like this, so please see me during lunch sometime next week to watch a Disney friendly version! :)

Here were some ideas that you all brainstormed in class of shows that involve this type of mystery investigation:
CSI, NCIS, Bones, Castle, Criminal Minds, Law and Order, Body of Proof, Hawaii 5-0 (sometimes - although not all cop shows = scientific investigation), House, The Mentalist, Unforgettable... are there any we are forgetting?

Post a comment here including the following:
  • The name of the TV show/movie
  • How it relates to the genre of Mystery
  • How it reminds you of Sherlock Holmes

  1. Scooby Doo! They are trying to find answers to a problem (aka:Solving a Mystery!!). It reminds me of Sherlock Holmes because they are willing to go to great lengths to solve the case. :)

They kidnapped a bus full of kids and they were trying to figure out why and who did it.
It reminds me of Sherlock homes because they are trying to put all the clues to gather where they are hiding

  5. Hawaii Five 0 (:
A bus filled with kids got hijacked and the hijackers wanted to kidnap every kid! There were alot of twists and turns that led them to find the hijackers! Thats why it reminds me of a mystery because a problem had to be solved. It reminds me of Sherlock Holmes because the characters in Hawaii Five 0 were trying to put every clue and evidence together to find out where the hijackers hid the kids as if Sherlock Holmes had to solve a mystery!

  6. Bones.
Last night they were figuring out how the or who killed the man that died near the volcano.
It reminds me of mystery because they solve murders and every mystery has an evidence.
It re minds me of Sherlock Holmes because seroius and they suddenly find out a possibility how the victim was killed and who are the suspects.

  7. L.A. Noire
The Case was "Slip of the Tongue" traffic case.
They were trying to figure out why the man was hit and then why the driver left the scene of the crime.
It remeinds me of a mystery because every step they take gets closer to how the man really died and for what reason.
It reminds me of Sherlock because when you're interviewing people you half to determine if they are lieing, telling the truth, or just giving the half truth.

  8. I watched Psych.
It is a mystery because they are trying to figure out who broke in to a coin expo. Also they have to interrogate people, so they have to decide who's lying and who's being honest.
It reminds me of Sherlock Holmes because the team has to remember every little detail and piece the crime together.

  11. I watched Hawaii Five-O

the police had found a man in underground areas that went into a coma and find out that a woman was murdered.
This reminds me of a mystery because they were trying to the man or woman who killed the woman and attempt to kill the man in the coma.
This reminds me of Sherlock Holmes because the police checks every little detail of the case by getting fingerprints or finding someone elses item from the victim and start interrogating suspects to get the truth out of them so the police can find out who was the antagonist.

  12. I watched the episode "Castle"
It was a mystery because they have to figure out the place where the crime occured, and who committed it.
It relates to Sherlock Holmes because they have to figure out the murder by clues they find along the way. And they use their intelligence and Castle is like Sherlock because they act in the same manor. Castle acts like Sherlock because he has random outbreaks on clues that eventually lead up to giving them a lead in the case.

  13. I had watched the show Criminal Minds and how it relates to Sherlock Holmes is because they put themselves in the killer's shoes and used their own backround knowledge to help figure out the murder. Also, in the BBC episode, Serlock used all of his senses to figure out everything about Watson just like the "team" used their five senses to help solve the crime.

  14. I watched the show House. It relates to the theme of mystery because in the episode, House and his team are trying to figure out what something is (a virus or a flu possibly). This episode reminded me of Sherlock Holmes because House would think he was always right, and he would INSIST on risking his life to find out what the mystery flu/virus was. He was constantly trying to find out solutions to what they were doing wrong. He also always had ideas to solve the mystery, just like Sherlock.

  15. I watched CSI.. It relates to the theme of mystery because they are trying to figure out who murdered this victim. By finding clues of past clients he had, the cat tracks in his house, and other possible ideas too. One of the characters remind me of Holmes becuase, one person would ask a question, but he would already have the answer so quick. Just like Sherlock would of how observent he is by just looking:)

  16. I watched CSI NY. It relates to the theme of mystery because they were trying to find who killed
the victim and that is a mystery. The main character reminds me of Sherlock because he never gave up and it turns out to be a suicide and Sherlock would never give up just like the main character.
