  1. Education is important to me because it sets your future. If you work really hard it will pay off, if you set a goal and stick to it you'll end up happy with the results, only if you put a little work into it. Me and my family both value education mostly because almost everyone on my moms side is a teacher(mom:1st grade, grandma:4th grade, aunt:math, aunt:spanish, uncle: high school, and a few more.) and they all stress how important education is. Everyone in my family went to college. Some of my friends value education but some don't. Some of them just don't realize how important it is. I feel that somebody needs to do something about that, provide that country with education, do something, they can't know nothing their whole life, they won't have good jobs or anything. If i could i would help, but i can't i'm only one person and i don't have a lot of power. I think we need to do something about Africa, barely any of the kids are educated, the represent their country by working, not learning. Some 250 million children between ages 5 and 17 - one out of every six in the world -are working.

  3. I think the dropout rate is so high because kids think no one cares like Sarae white said “The teachers don’t care, the students don’t care, Nobody cared, so why should I?”. Kids think that high school doesn't affect them a lot but when they try to get a job it’s really hard and they don’t get paid as much. I think schools can pay for more things because sometimes kids can’t go to school because it’s too expensive.Schools can do more to help kids like help them if their going through a hard time of if they're having trouble with homework. One statistic is “ Ages 18 and 24 dropouts were more than twice as likely as college graduates to live in poverty according to the department of education. Education is important to me because it keeps me off the street and safe and it helps me get smarter. Also i can earn more money and i’m likely to get into college .The same way with my family an my friends.I think schools can promote the 14% by paying for more things and parents trying to keep their kids in school. I think people because some people don’t believe in school and they may not be able to afford it.

  4. I believe that the dropout rate is so high because in the text it says “Sarae White is an all-too-typical student in Philadelphia-- she stopped going to school last year, and was on her way to becoming one more dropout. ‘The teachers didn’t care, the students didn’t care,’ White said.’Nobody cared, so why should I?’” This tells me that students like Sarae believed that nobody cared whether or not she or anybody else dropped out. Schools may try to get a law passed to keep students in school at least to graduate high school, they also may try and get in as many fun projects to the students, just because its fun doesn’t mean that the students aren’t learning. Teachers could also try and encourage the students to go on to college so they can have a better life. If students that were planning on dropping out learn about some of the things that could happen to them maybe they would reconsider what their decision was. In the text it says, “ The average dropout can expect to earn an annual income of $20,241, according to the U.S. Census Bureau (PFD). That’s a full $10,386 less than a typical high school graduate, and $36,424 less than someone with a bachelor’s degree.” If students were to learn about these subjects when they began their high school years and throughout the high school years dropping out may not ever be an option. I value my education because I don’t want to drop out, I want to be successful and set a good example for my nieces. When I’m older I have plans, I want to go to college and be a physical therapist or an occupational therapist, I don’t want to grow up and wonder why I didn’t go to college. My education is important to my family and friends because they want to see me successful and I plan to make them proud. I believe that every child deserves an education and these children are getting deprived of it, I think that people should volunteer to help these children with disabilities to learn what they need to. People could also get hired to live in the country and teach these children that deserve to learn. If a child comes from a broken or dysfunctional family I don’t believe that they should be excluded from learning. Their family may be broken or not the best but the child that wants to learn may want to be the one person in the family to actually make a difference in the world and to actually have a better life than that student lives now. I don’t understand why they deprive these students of learning if when they learn they could change the world completely.

  5. I think that student strat to change their priorities, task and school becomes less of a priority. The dropout rate would decrease if schools maybe made thing more fun and found ways to make things easier to grasp.¨The same study found that as a result - when compared to the typical high school graduate - a drop out will end up costing taxpayers an average of 292,000 over a lifetime due to the price tag associated with incarceration and other factors such as how much less they pay in taxes.¨ I do not think it is fair to make taxpayers pay for dropouts .Education means alot to me because as i tink about the future or look into the future everything is going back to the fact that i would need a good education for this job, i think i value education the same as my family and friends because all of my friends are in school as well as most of my family and they all went back to school or either finished it off. There is a lot of ways can affect the percentage for instance they can come up with logically ways to make school more entertaining or fun and encourage them to go and get an education.Dysfunctional or broken up families could be thinking about how life is going to be without the other parent instead of doing work.

  6. I spend about none each day because my internet is broken so we can't go on the computer
No it doesn't because i dont go on the computer so it doesn't matter to me.
I kinda do have a short attention span but if you give me a remote and a violent game and a tv and a bathroom i will be fine.
By playing a video game most of the times.
No i don't suffer from it at all because i can just find out a school what happen.
i dont have face book to answer that question
When it said that susan greenfield will make a disturbing reading for the millions people whose life depend on their favorite sites to go on That was kind of like really lady you probably go your sites to so shh. And kind of sad because i can't believe that a lot of our population sits in front of a computer and comments on a picture.

  7. 1.I think the dropout rate is high because more people don't care about graduating. In the story it states that a dropout said, “ The teachers didn’t care, the students didn’t care, Nobody cared, so why should I?” Dropouts don't care anything about school and graduating.
    2. Schools might first check with parents to make sure it’s ok with them or will tell the students a reason why to stay in school and what is the cause if you decide to drop out.
    3. The average money a drop out can earn from an annual income is $20,241. If you're a graduate you will earn $10,386 more, but if you get your bachelor’s you will earn $36,424 more money.

    1. Education is important to me because if will help me in the future for a job. Yes because education can bring us good things in life. It will help us on things we have been taught in school if there are thing we need help on.
    2. There should be a school that does not cost a lot but can use other things than stuff that is required for school.
    3. “Girls”. In the categories most girls are getting married early or get pregnant early. This forces the girls to abandon their studies. 15% of children dies before the age of 5 do to education. Some 83% of the dropout girls live in sub-Saharan Africa, South and East Asia and the Pacific.

  8. the dropout rate is so high because the people personally problem with their family and their private life . Also the girl get pregnant and they drop out and they might have to raise their sister or brother. the boys become a father or just stop going to their school.Maybe the boy and girl get addicted to drugs or something

  9. I think that the dropout rate is so high because, according to the text “ CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker reports of the four million students who enter high school every year, one million of them will drop out before graduation. That’s 7,000 every school day -- one dropout every 26 seconds. So that is why i think that their are so many dropouts each year. Also according to the text “ The teachers didn’t care, the students didn’t care,” White said. “ Nobody cared, so why should i ?” Well if nobody cared about what kids said then they will drop out because nobody will want to care about most of the kids think. If I was somebody that nobody cared about I would drop out too because nobody cared then why should I. I think that schools could pay more attention to all of their students rather than just certain kids, then their would be less dropouts every year. “ An adult with a primary education earns twice as much as an adult without schooling.” I could agree with this statement, because if you do not go to school it is not only your fault, but if you want to get a great expectation and get a good job then don’t you want to go to school and get that great expectation to go and get that good job that you have been waiting for. But if you do not go to school then you could end up having no job or having a job that doesn’t pay you a lot of money. I would rather go to school and get a decent job.

I think that education is important, because you not only could go out and get yourself a decent job, but you could also be smarter than the people who do not go to school and have no reputation. Sometimes i might value education the same way that some of my family members do, but other times i do not. I might value education from my friends, but sometimes i might not. I think that the 14% of children who are not getting enough education will not be as successful as the people who do go to school and get a good education. “ It is happening today to over a hundred million children. They are being denied the opportunity to attend school, and improve their lives.” I believe that this statement should not be allowed because children should go to school whenever they want to, so at least they have some sort of reputation. That is too many students who are being rejected so that they could not go to school, i mean how would the people who said that the children cannot go to school if someone told them that they could not go to school but they wanted to anyway. “ At least 9 million more girls that boys are left out of school each year. Even if girls attend school, they are the first to leave when needed at home to do domestic chores, and cared for their siblings or ailing parents. Also, when resources are scarce, girls are most likely to be deprived of basic necessities, such as food and medicine, and school. And very often, early marriage and pregnancy force girls to abandon their studies.” I thought that if the girls get to go home early if they are needed at home, then the boys will be educationized. I also thought that the guys will get more education than the girls will. Then if the boys have more education for then the girls, then the guys will be the know it alls in the family and they will know everything that will be needed.

  10. 1) I think the dropout rate is so high because people dislikes school or the people don’t think it’s important.
    2) They could lower the dropout rate by teaching how good it is to get a diploma.
    3) Joblessness people couldn't have heard or cared about what will happen to people without a diploma.

  11. I think the dropout rate is so high because people don’t really care. Sarae White said “The teachers didn’t care, the students didn’t care. Nobody cared, so why should I?" Sometimes people just don’t care or realize how important it is, or the effects it has later in their life. Schools may try to pass a law to make students finish high school. It might tell them that someone might actually care, and it forces them to finish. Another thing they can do is make going to school fun and encourage them to finish school. If students enjoy being there then they’re more likely to go. And if the see how important school is to their future it could make them want to finish school and get an education. “The average dropout can expect to earn an annual income of $20,241, to the U.S. Census Bureau (PDF). Thats a full $10,386 less than the typical high school graduate, and $36,424 less than someone with a bachelor’s degree.” This might persuade someone to finish high school and maybe even go on to college! They see all the good things about finishing school and not as many good things about dropping out. Education is important to me because I want to be successful and have a good life. I want to finish high school and get at least a bachelors degree. It is very important in my family and to my friends. There are a lot of things that promote change about the 14% who can't receive education. They’re more likely to live in poverty or be incarcerated. Also I think money is a big part because the dropout isn’t making enough money and because it is costing taxpayers more money. All of these things make them realize how important education is to their future and that if they have the privilege, they must go or fight for that right! I think everyone deserves a chance at education. People in this world should do more to make sure it happens. Giving people the education they need to make a change in the world, a chance at a better life. I don’t think it is fair that some are excluded from getting an education and a chance to be successful.

  12. Who isn’t graduating from high school?

    1. I think the dropout rate is so high because pregnancy, bullying, kids that join gangs, or kids that just don’t care about school.

    2. Make school enjoyable for students, reward them.

    3. The 5th paragraph on the last page, a lot of dropouts end up poor and I think that percent is higher than people with degrees because they can’t get a good job like the people with degrees.

No school for 100 million children

    1. Education is important to me because it impacts my future. I think I value education more than my younger sister because she’s too young to understand what school does for us.

    2. I think for the kids who aren’t able to attend school, they can learn basic things from people at home. That might help promote change.

    3. Two-thirds of the kids not getting education is females. That is a big percentage of girls, and since most of the kids that don’t get education are from Saharan Africa and South West Asia it’s understandable. Girls from those countries are expected to have children at a young age and stay home to cook and clean, so I think that’s why that statistic is high.

  13. yes, education is very important to me because I learn new things and it will help me in the future when I got a job.To my parents education is very important too. They always tell me that I should do good with my studies. And when ever I get a bad grade is when they tell me that. Also they till me that I should be thankful to have a good education and home.I think that they should get some teachers to go over there and help get a better education.Make a better effort to help.In the text it says "Also during the 1990's the primary school completion rate in developing countries improved by 68% to 73%. Yet over150 million children in the developing world do not complete five years of schooling, the minimum...". Why are they saying that?! If you want people to go to school and finish you have to show you care or then they won't care either. Also, if some people want to make an effort to change then go do it don't wait in till someone else does.
